Feasts and festivals in Paris promise a summer of delight

Feasts and festivals in Paris mean that summer is truly here, and, this month, all of us at Hotel du Danube are delighted to recommend some of them to you - along with the summer sales that begin on June 25th, which are a true festival of shopping.

The sales run until July 29th - and we suggest that you use the new Paris Shopping Book 2014 as your personal guide to seek out the best bargains. Just about every store in Paris has a sale on, and joining Parisians seeking out bargains is a great way to see the city.

For culture lovers, there's truly a feast for the senses this summer: with everything from free music, to the finest jazz and ballet.

Saint-Germain des Prés Jazz Festival

The annual jazz festival in our area, the Festival Jazz Saint-Germain-des-Prés, brings some of the finest performers to Paris from May 15th to May 25th and it's one of the events that we at Hotel du Danube most look forward to. From established stars to emerging talents, this festival has something for all tastes, performed at 18 venues, most just a short walk from our front door.

Fête de la Musique

Then, a month later, Fete de la Musique, the Festival of Music, puts free music on the streets for a day on June 21st - and you will find everything from choirs to karaoke performing on street corners, in shopping centres and on public squares from dawn until dusk. We suggest that you simply set out from our front door and follow your ears to the sounds that attract you most, eating and drinking along the way. You'll have an unforgettable day.

Les Etés de la Danse Festival

Ballet fans have a treat coming up in July. The annual Les étés de la Danse - the Summer Dance Festival - at the Chatelet Theatre hosts the world-famous San Francisco Ballet, led by the choreographer and former dancer Helgi Tómasson from July 10 - 26. Eighteen unique pieces are on the programme, including nine French premieres. This is an opportunity to see some of the finest dancers in the world at a beautiful 19th century theatre in the heart of Paris.
