From El Greco to Henri de Toulouse Lautrec at the Grand Palais

Take the opportunity while enjoying your break in the capital to discover two fabulous exhibitions at the Grand Palais. The first pays homage to Henri de Toulouse Lautrec while the second is dedicated to El Greco. A world of fine art awaits you in Paris and this is a great place to start.

Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, a Resolutely Modern artist

The last retrospective of the work of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec in Paris took place in 1992. Since then, many exhibitions have examined the ‘culture of Montmartre’, but Resolutely Modern at the Grand Palais showcases another aspect of this artist. A more poetic and aesthetic, even political, dimension. You’ll have the opportunity to contemplate works that reflect the reality of late 19th century Parisian society and understand why Henri de Toulouse Lautrec played an integral role among the precursors of avant-garde movements such as Futurism. Discover all this and more at the Galeries Nationales of the Grand Palais from October 9th, 2019 to January 27th, 2020.

A rare retrospective of an artistic genius known as El Greco

Domenico Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco (‘The Greek’), was born in Crete in 1541. He began his apprenticeship in the pure Byzantine tradition before perfecting his art in Venice and Rome. He is considered the last great master of the Italian Renaissance, noted for his elongated figures and dramatic, expressionistic style. You can discover much more about the pioneering artist during this retrospective, the first major exhibition in France to be dedicated exclusively to this true precursor of modernity. This exhibition runs from October 16, 2019 to February 10, 2020 in the South-East Gallery of the Grand Palais.
