On September 18th and 19th, the 38th edition of the European Heritage Days takes place. This annual event has proven to be a huge success. Each year, it’s enriched with new experiences and activities that allow visitors to explore places normally closed to the public. The 2021 theme of Heritage Days is, in a way, a return to basics as it underlines the idea of a common heritage. It invites you to tour places of power like the Elysée and Matignon, the National Assembly and the Senate! Go behind the scenes of legendary Parisian cinema the Grand Rex and enjoy the verdant splendour found in the greenhouses of the Jardins du Luxembourg. A few steps from your Hotel du Danube, the Maison d'Auguste Comte and the Institut de France will open their doors to you.
A White Night for contemporary art
The Nuit Blanche is also an event that is rapidly gaining in popularity. This event creates routes of discovery leading to contemporary art performances and installations situated in the urban space. Painting and sculpture as well as video, dance and other aspects of creativity highlight famous Parisian locations as well as lesser-known places. In the 6th arrondissement, very close to your hotel, you’ll find a light installation illuminating poems engraved by Otobong Nkanga on the Esplanade Gaston-Monnerville, a performance mixing dance and organ music at the Saint-Sulpice Church and a sculpture trail on the theme of childhood at the Zadkine Museum.
Paris is reinforcing its place on the cultural scene by increasingly opening up its public and private heritage during European Heritage Days, but also by offering everyone a window on current contemporary creation during the White Night.
