Notre Dame de Paris Concerts 2014 ; Inspiring and uplifting

Notre Dame de Paris concerts 2014 offer an opportunity for your heart to be uplifted by spiritually inspiring music performed in one of the most magnificent buildings in the world. The current musical season, running until July, continues to reflect this centuries old heritage of soaring grandeur. For an experience that will remain with you always, the Hotel du Danube warmly recommends that you allow yourself to be swept away by the transcendental bliss that music can bring.

Notre Dame de Paris concerts , enchanting music in enchanting surroundings

Music has formed an integral element in the life of Notre Dame Cathedral since the building of the church commenced in the 12th century and the Notre Dame Choir School was formed not long after. Since then this French Gothic architectural masterpiece has regularly reverberated to music either divine in intent or swept to celestial heights by the setting in which it is performed.

In 1991 the French state, the City of Paris and the Parisian Diocesan Association came together to form the Musique Sacrée à Notre-Dame de Paris. This organisation is responsible for music teaching, organising concerts, recitals and the musical accompaniment of the liturgy, and also for research into the cathedral’s musical heritage. Today, around fifty choirs from around the world perform at the cathedral annually, there are organ recitals on Sunday afternoons and a full programme of musical performances each season, exploring a wide musical repertoire. During the current season, ending in July you can enjoy such delights as the Mozart Mass in C, Gregorian chants and the music of the Middle Ages, and the choral works of Allegri, Britten, Mendelssohn and Poulenc.
